It's Spring. Be sure to sign up for your local farm to table CSA before the shares are gone.

I spotted these kids feeding their afternoon snack to pigeons at a park in NYC. When I asked them if they thought spring would ever come, they laughed.

"Of course, spring is already here!" they said. And then they ran over to the vegetable garden in the park where fresh little green tips of tulips, herbs and grasses were clearly poking up through the winter-ravaged twigs and dirt. I had completely overlooked these signs of spring that were so obvious to the children.

One of the girls showed me the nest she built for the birds. She was busy lining it with soft grasses, dirt and even bits of her own hair. Birds gathered around the tree above the nest, probably looking for remnants of the snacks.

Just like these kids, farmers in and around NYC know that spring is here, and that means high season approaches for food and farm production. One of the very best ways you can support local farms is to sign up for a CSA share (CSA means "community supported agriculture"). CSA membership guarantees a subscriber with a steady supply of delicious, locally grown vegetables all season long. For a list of CSA's that serve NYC, check out this list on Just Food. Don't wait! Spring is here, and that means summer bounty is on its way!
